June in Florence! Calcio Storico, Feast of San Giovanni, Rock Festival and much more

The month of June in Florence is a very interesting month. Apart from the mild and sunny climate, many events are held in the city.

The most important one for Florentines is certainly the FEAST OF SAN GIOVANNI on June 24th which includes fireworks from Piazzale Michelangelo, costume parades in the historic center and many related events. The city is transformed and dressed in historical costumes. Here is some information:

Another important event linked to the Feast of San Giovanni is the CALCIO STORICO, whose final is celebrated on the day of San Giovanni, June 24th. Calcio storico is the ancestor of American football in which the four teams of the historic districts compete in historical costumes: the Bianchi di Santo Spirito, the Rossi di Santa Maria Novella, the Verdi di San Giovanni and the Azzurri di Santa Croce.
